Many youth organisations are making use of Online Forums & Social
Networking Applications (eg. Facebook & Myspace) for members to
communicate with one another. Crusaders recognises that online forums
& social networking sites can be a powerful way of retaining
community post-camp and providing an environment in which campers can
stay in touch with leaders and each other, ask questions and grow in
their faith. Crusaders is committed to utilising this new medium to
positively impact both campers' and leaders' lives.
PRIMARY CRU
CAMPS ONLINE FORUMS v1.1 CRU Camps is encouraging the use
of online social networking forums post-camp so that campers and leaders can
stay in touch with each other in a controlled environment. Campers will be sent
a web link at the end of camp to enable them to join their specific camp group
forum. Forum Security Your child’s safety is of great
importance to us. To maximise the safety of each camp forum group we have put
the following procedures in place: · The only people in the
group will be campers and leaders from the camp your child attends – no one
else will be allowed to join the group.* · All content will be
screened by the administrators of the group (camp leaders) in order to
screen inappropriate content. ·The administrator can remove
published/public postings at any time and has the power to remove campers from
membership of the group if necessary. ·All postings by campers and
leaders will be viewable only by group members (not the public). In order to join the group, your
child needs to be a member of Fervr and agree to its terms and conditions. We
advise you speak to them about using online social networking positively and
decide with them whether they should become a member and whether they should
join the camp group. The http://www.staysmartonline.gov.au/teens
and http://www.cybersmart.gov.au/
websites provide helpful guidelines and ideas of what you could speak with your
children about. If you do not wish your child to
participate in their camp forum group please make it known to them that you do not
want them to join. Cru Camps leave it up to parents to instruct their children
and will not be held responsible if a child joins against their parents’
wishes. If you have any concerns regarding the content of a group, please
contact the Director of CRU Camps by calling 9874 8933.
SECONDARY
CRU CAMPS ONLINE FORUMS v1.1 CRU Camps is
encouraging the use of online social networking forums so that campers can stay
in contact with other campers and their leaders beyond camp. Campers will be
sent a web link which will enable them to join their specific camp group forum.
Forum Security Your child’s safety is of great
importance to us. We recognize that online social networking can have both a
positive and negative influence on users, and our desire is to be proactive in
creating a positive space with positive interactions. To achieve this, each completely high
school aged Cru camp will have a group created using the Facebook website ‘group’
feature. The advantages of using this
method are:
- The majority of group content including names ofmembers is only viewable by other group members.
- The posts are not unhelpfully private or closed, but are instead open to scrutiny with staff, leaders and other campersinteracting through the site regularly.
- Most high school aged campers already use thesegroups, so they are more familiar with their operation, and their editableprivacy and security settings.
- Campers can easily be informed of and reply topost camp reunions.
For High School aged camps we have
put the following procedures in place:
- A designated leader from camp will act as theadministrator of the group, with other leaders also having the ability toidentify and remove unhelpful content and/or members.
- Posts by campers and leaders will be viewableonly by group members.
- Photos and videos taken by campers and leaders canalso be uploaded to this group, where they may have otherwise beenuploaded to sites which are not known or viewed by leaders.
In order to join the group, your
child needs to be a member of Facebook and agree to its terms and conditions,
one of which is that members must be aged 13 or older. We advise you speak to
them about using online social networking positively and decide with them
whether they should become a member, whether they should join the camp group,
and whether they should add and accept online friend requests from other
campers or leaders.
Crusaders
will inform camper parents of the existence of these online forums
through the 'Camper Info Letter' which is distributed prior to camp.
