HSC STUDY CAMP FAQs
1. Can my child bring their laptop on camp?
Yes, however The Crusader Union of Australia takes no responsibility for personal property taken on camps.
If your child chooses to bring their laptop on camp, they take full responsibility for it's security. Whilst Crusaders' does everything we can to ensure that security of your belongings is a priority, we still need you to take steps to limit risk. In particular, if your child is bringing a laptop on camp:
- Crusaders requires you to bring a Kensington lock (or equivalent) and your own power board and extension cord.
- We strongly encourage you to insure your laptop as a portable item, especially if you plan to take it to uni with you next year. (A few extra dollars could save you a lot if something was to happen to it!)
- Do not bring any laptop bags with broken zippers or attachments
- We also request that you make a copy of your hard drive before you come to camp and keep the copy at home.
2. Can campers use the internet on camp?
No. Internet access will not be provided. We request that campers please download all of their research and resources necessary for their study before they come on camp so that they have access to them.
Please be aware that the camp sites we use are in remote locations, and internet dongles will have limited or no coverage. We recommend that they are not brought to camp.
3. What does a day on a HSC study camp look like?
Camp programs vary dependent on site schedules.
Click here to view some sample CRU HSC Study Camp programs.
4. Will my child be given assistance with their subject?
Each CRU Camp is run by a Christian leadership team which includes teachers, uni students and full-time workers with a wide range of graduate & post-graduate qualifications, who are committed to helping your child achieve their HSC study goals and thinking about post HSC life! Leadership teams and qualifications vary between camps. While we aim to cover a broad range of subjects, we can not guarantee what will be covered or what areas leaders will specialise in.
5. Can my child be in the same room as his/her friend?
Campers can room with whoever they chose, as long as they are of the same gender and the director does not choose to separate them for disciplinary reasons. Simply write the name of the friend your child would like to bunk with on the booking form under the Personal Details section headed 'Room mate Preference'. Please note: in some circumstances campers may not get all of their room mate preferences, and camp directors may choose to separate campers for disciplinary reasons.
What if this friend hasn't registered yet?
You can still list them as the 'Room mate Preference'. If their friend doesn't end up coming on camp, your child will be allocated to a general room group and they will make new friends.
Please note: having their friend listed as a room mate preference does not guarantee that friend's place on camp.
6. When can we register?
All CRU Camps open for registrations two school Terms in advance of that school holiday period. Up to date information regarding registration availabilities will be posted on the
HSC Study Camps page accordingly.
7. My child needs to attend another event during camp.
Anyone needing to leave camp early or arrive at camp late, for any period of time during the week, must bring a signed permission note from their parents addressed to the camp director. We also require that you notify the CRU Camps office before camp. No discounts are available for partial attendance at camp.
